Lisa Weightman breaks half-marathon record

Victorian Institute of Sport’s Lisa Weightman, broke the Australian all-comers’ half-marathon record in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, with Sinead Diver also racing strong and finishing second.

The pace was on from gun to tape in this IAAF Bronze Labels road race between three evenly-matched contenders- Sinead Diver, Ellie Pashley and Weightman. The trio were together until the 20km point, but it was 40-year-old Weightman who proved the strongest finisher, turning a 12-second margin over Diver into a 21-second win over the final 1.0975km.

Weightman and Diver finished the race with times of 1:08:48 and 1:09:08, and Pashley third in 1:09:14 making it the best top-three finish in a women’s half marathon on Australian soil.
