Victorian Institute of Sport shooting athletes have brought home the Gold from the ISSF Shooting World Championship Shotgun in Lonato Del Garda in Italy.
Laetisha Scanlan and James Willett found themselves in a shoot off against Russia, after being tied on 44 points each. Staying calm in the most pressured situation the Aussie pair took home the gold in the Trap Mixed Team Final.
Meanwhile, fellow VIS athlete Penny Smith and her teammate Thomas Grice came up on top against the United States in the Bronze medal match, winning 45 to 40.
In the individual Women’s Trap, Scanlan qualified for the finals where she placed 5th overall, while Smith scored 115 in her qualification to finish 16th.
In the Men’s Individual Trap qualifier, Willett placed 35th and Nathan Argiro scored 113 to finish 78th. In the Junior Trap Men’s qualifier, VIS’ talented youngster Mitchell Iles scored 114 to place 17th overall.
The VIS’s Aislin Jones competed in the Junior Skeet Women’s qualifier, finishing on 113 and placing 11th, just missing out on finals. Luke Argiro competed in the Men’s Skeet qualifier finishing in 32nd out of 130 athletes.
Jones and Argiro competed together in the Skeet Mixed teams, where the pair totalled a score of 142 and saw a 7th place finish out of 37 teams in the event.
A congratulations to VIS shooter Sergei Evglevski who was named as the Australian Flagbearer at the 30th Summer Universiade in Napoli, Italy.
