Bisset strikes again

Recent results from VIS track & field athletes from the European competition season.

Over in England at the London Diamond League competition, Victorian Institute of Sport 800m runner Catriona Bisset continued her recent performance success by breaking the Australian Record in the women’s 800m.

A second place finish and a time of 1:58.78, Bisset has managed to qualify herself for Doha World Championships and Tokyo 2020 in a single race.

After the race she mentioned “I knew I had that kind of race in me just because of the winning streak. I knew if I had a quick pace maker I could take some time off some my PB and I took exactly a second off”.

In the same race, Morgan Mitchell made a statement, qualifying herself with a 5th place finish and a personal best time of 2:00.06, for the Doha World Championships also.

The women’s 1500m saw VIS runner Linden Hall also qualify for Doha, clocking a time of 4:04.29 and a 13th place finish, while unfortunately Celeste Mucci didn’t make it across the line in the women’s 100m Hurdles.

In the long jump, Henry Smith finished 8th with a jump of 7.57m in the men’s, while Brooke Stratton jumped 6.64m to finish in 4th place overall.

Prior to London at the Varberg Grand Prix in Sweden, Bissett was on track again, taking a 1st place finish in the 800m and time of 2:00.44, while Brooke Stratton finished 4th in the long jump with 6.24m.

Some great news came out of Spain at the Meeting International Ciudad de Barcelona, where Peter Bol finished 3rd in the men’s 800m, qualifying for the Doha World Championships with a time of 1:45.56.  Luke Mathews also had a 3rd place finish in the men’s 1500m with a time of 3:38.79.
