The Hockeyroos and the Kookaburras have secured spots in the FIH Pro League finals following wins against Germany over the weekend.
VIS athletes, Rachael Lynch, Lily Brazel and Sophie Taylor, enjoyed back to back wins with the Hockeyroo’s squad during the FIH Pro League, beating Germany 3-1 over the weekend.
VIS athlete Josh Simmonds was a late addition to the Kookaburras squad for their FIH Pro League game against Germany in Krefeld on Sunday. The 2-1 victory secured the Kooka’s a top-four spot in the FIH Pro League and they will next play on Wednesday in Antwerp against World No. 1 team Belgium.
In other hockey news, Hockeyroos Head Coach Paul Gaudoin welcomed three new players into the National Development Squad (NDS), including VIS athlete Amy Lawton.
Lawton is a current junior squad member who has enjoyed a meteoric rise after debuting with the Hockeyroos in the Anzac Day FIH Pro League match against New Zealand. The 17-year-old lives in Emerald and plays for the Southern United Hockey Club in Melbourne, while studying for her VCE.
“Amy Lawton has shown tremendous progress through her junior national squad and VAA opportunities. She plays beyond her years and displays a very high quality of hockey. She’s an incredible talent,” said Gaudoin.
