Nutrition Tip | Creatine

Have you heard about creatine and its use as a sports supplement?

Creatine is a naturally occurring chemical found in the muscle and brain for energy metabolism.

Creatine helps recycle ADP to ATP and is useful for sports with explosive power and high intensity repetitive efforts. There is also limited evidence around muscle repair and injury assistance.

Creatine is found in animal based foods such as red meat, poultry and fish. Athletes who eat these foods have significantly higher amounts of creatine in their muscles.

Creatine can also be used as an ergogenic aid, or a supplement.

Always use products that have been batch tested and have been approved by Informed Sport and HASTA before starting a new regime.

Talk to your sports dietitian about whether creatine may be beneficial to help you in achieving your performance goals and the best protocols for you.
