Nutrition Tip | Breakfast

Is Breakfast the most important meal of the day??

If you do a quick google search:

- Breakfast is the most important meal of the day = 103 million hits

- Breakfast is not the most important meal of the day = 104 million hits

Confusing right?

It’s no surprise that when it comes to breakfast and its importance there is a lot of confusion.

When athletes are involved, there is a much clearer purpose and function.  Breakfast provides an opportunity to break your overnight fast (break – fast) and top-up your muscles with glycogen for energy, and protein for muscle synthesis.

Not only does it kick start your metabolism and energy burning for the day, but it allows time to space out your meals to optimise muscle growth and recovery. Not to mention, preventing hunger whilst trying to get on with your day.

When it comes to the best types of breakfast, there are three key things to look for:

- Adequate protein - Aim for 10g +

- Quality carbohydrates – Lower added sugars

- High fibre – Aim for 5g+

Next week, we’ll feature some great breaky options.
