Two rowers selected for Australia

Victorian Institute of Sport rowers Ria Thompson and Skyla Froebel named to represent Australia at the World Rowing Championships and 2018 Trans-Tasman Regatta, respectively.

Thompson’s hard work has been rewarded with Australian selection in the Women’s U23 Double Scull, set to compete at the 2018 World Rowing Under 23 Championships to be held in Poznan, Poland from 25 to 29 July.

Whilst up and coming VIS rower, Skyla Forbel, has been named to represent Australia at the 2018 Trans-Tasman Regatta against New Zealand in the Women’s U21 Coxless Pair.

The U21 series is a positive development opportunity for Australia’s pathway athletes transitioning between the junior (U19) and under 23 categories.

Australia’s Deputy Performance Director, Jaime Fernandez, says that the depth of youth is exciting.

“The standard and depth of the triallists and crews in 2018 is very pleasing. A number of the athletes/crews selected have been performing strongly throughout the season and we look forward to their continued improvement and positive performances, along with wishing them the best of success at their respective competitions.” Fernandez said.
