Kell turns track into Gold

The men’s 4000m team pursuit won gold for Australia in a new World Record time, which included VIS scholarship holder Kell O’Brien.

A tactical move by Australia saw O’Brien miss the qualifying round and come in for Kerby in the final.

The move proved to be successful as Australia went on to ride 3 minutes 49.805 seconds, shaving off nearly half a second from the world record set in Rio two years ago.

In other VIS cycling news from the Commonwealth Games, sprint cyclist Jacob Schmidt won two bronze medals in the men’s team sprint as well as the individual sprint.

Jess Gallagher and Maddie Janssen also had a very positive Commonwealth Games campaign putting together two runner-up performances in the women’s B&VI 4KM – in which they were world record holders (even if it was only for 5 minutes before the English riders broke it next heat) and B&VI 1000m Time Trial
