VIS Rowers shine in Sydney

The VIS rowers were among the best at the Sydney International Rowing Regatta, which included a Gold medal to World 2k Ergo Record holder Josh Dunkley-Smith.

Dunkley-Smith teamed up with fellow VIS scholarship holder’s Josh Booth and Simon Keenan to claim Gold in the Men’s open four.

Booth and Keenan also won Gold in the Men’s Open Two. However, the three when joining the Men’s Open Eight crew narrowly missed out on the winning the ‘Kings Cup Men’s Eight,’ settling for Silver.

Ria Thomas continued her impressive form winning Gold after holding off VIS teammate Amanda Bateman in the U23 Women’s single scull final.

Bateman and Thomas teamed up to win the U23 women’s double sculls. They didn’t finish their successful regatta there either, the pair were also victorious in the women’s quad sculls and came third in the open quad sculls.

Bateman decided three medals wasn’t enough and joined the Women’s Eight crew alongside Lucy Stephan, Jess Morrison, Kat Werry, Addy Dunkley-Smith, Katie Michelmore and Sarah Ben-David.

The Victorian Institute of Sport athletes won the Interstate Women’s Eight, making it the 14th year in a row that Victoria have won this event.
