Nutrition Tip | Easter & Chocolate

Quality over quantity.

We all love chocolate and the months preceding Easter become a time of year where chocolate and chocolate hot cross buns are bountiful. Some of us may gleefully descend into a chocolate–fueled sugar coma whereas others may carefully save their eggs in a secret stash to enjoy over the coming months.

Our Easter tip this year is to choose quality rather than quantity. Chocolate isn’t ‘bad’, however to prevent stomach upsets associated with large quantities, to maintain ideal body composition and continue smart fueling around training, choose quality and be prepared to potentially pay a little extra.

Our tips to choosing quality and avoiding the sugar coma.

  • Explore specialty chocolate shops such as Haigh’s, Adriano Zumbo, Koko Black or Darrell Lea.
  • Most health food shops stock boutique and artisan chocolates from local chocolatiers using high quality ingredients that are made with love!
  • Lindt and other chocolate with >70% cocoa content are good supermarket choices.
  • Eat slowly, identify 5 sensations your brain notices when the chocolate enters your mouth ~ for example; texture, shape, flavour, crunchy bits or bitterness.
  • Organise an Easter egg hunt and share amongst family or friends.

Happy Easter!
