Poke Bowls are the latest café craze. vHave you had one yet?

Pronounced POH-keh, it’s a traditional Hawaiian delicacy, made up of chunks of raw, marinated fish, tossed over rice and topped with vegetables.  Poke simply means “to cut or slice” in Hawaiian.

It starts with a base layer of rice, you can request as much or little as your training demands. Add raw fish: tuna, salmon, yellowfin, that’s been marinated in flavours such as soy sauce, ponzu, mirin, vinegar or lemon juice.

Or if you’re not a fan of raw fish, substitute for tofu or even chicken. Topped with avocado, spring onion, seaweed or kale & other vegetables and seasoned with sea salt and sesame seeds.

That’s one well balanced bowl…ticking the box for carbs, protein & veg!

Move over sushi. Make room for the Poke Bowl.
