Kookaburra's coast to victory

The Australian men’s hockey team, the Kookaburras, coasted to a dominant victory over Malaysia, in their second game at the 2017 Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia.

With VIS athletes Aaron Kleinschmidt, Joshua Pollard and Andrew Philpott as members of the Kookaburras team, the Australians defeated the hosts 6–1 thanks to hat tricks from both Tom Craig and Trent Mitton.

In their opening game in Malaysia, the Kookaburras drew 1-1 with trans-Tasman  rivals New Zealand. Following a two hour delay due to a lightning storm, the Aussies played a staunch game against the Kiwis with neither side scoring in the first half.

The Kookaburras were first to score just two minutes into the second half with Tom Craig finding some space in the circle to score a field goal.

The Black Sticks equalised in the 52nd minute when Dominic Newman struck from the field to bring the game back to level terms.

The Kookaburras next play India on Tuesday, May 2 at 6.05pm AEST.
