In Rowie We Trust

The Australian Women’s Water Polo Team have bounced back from a group stage loss to USA, defeating the host nation 10-7 in the final of FINA World League Intercontinental Tournament in California.

A young Aussie Stingers team were dominant throughout the tournament with victories over China, Japan, Canada and Kazakhstan. The win secures a start at the FINA World League Super Final in China next month as the Stingers look towards the World Championships in Budapest in July.

VIS athlete, Rowie Webster, was instrumental in the Aussie Stingers World League title win finding the back of the net on two occasions in the final. Webster was crowned the golden-hand of the tournament, notching up 19 goals for the Australians.

“It is really exciting to get a new group of girls together and then come up with the gold medal,” said Webster.

“We’ve got a lot of building to do but it’s a good confidence boost going into World League Finals next month.”
