Weightman sets PB in London marathon

The 2017 London Marathon produced a scorching women's race with Kenya's Mary Keitany winning in 2:17:01 to set a new women only world record ahead of track legend Tirunesh Dibaba.

Australia were led by VIS athlete Lisa Weightman who ran a personal best of 2:25:15 for fifth place and the first non-African women to cross the line in the English capital.

In other track and field news, London and the IAAF World Championships are calling for the Australian women’s 4x400m relay team after they ensured their automatic entry by advancing to the medals round in Nassau.

In the final, National 400m champion and VIS athlete Morgan Mitchell combined with Anneliese Rubie (NSW), Ella Nelson (NSW) and Olivia Tauro (NSW) to cross the line in fifth place (3:38.80), missing a medal by a mere 0.31 secs.

VIS athlete Zoe Buckman was a member of the Australian women’s x800m relay team that finished third at the IAAF World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas. Buckman combined with Lora Storey (NSW), Abbey de la Motte (Tas),  and Heidi See (NSW), to claim the bronze medal in a time of 8:21.08.

VIS athlete Luke Mathews anchored the men’s 4x800m relay team, and help off a strong-finishing Mexican team on final leg to cross just outside medals in fourth place in an overall time of 7:20.10.
