Vixens dominate over Fever

The Melbourne Vixens dominated against the West Coast Fever in a final quarter thriller that saw the Vixens run away with the win, 56 to 45.

After a slow start, the Vixens found their rhythm and took control of the competition maintaining a strong four point lead over the Fever throughout much of the first half.

The scores were tight for most of the first quarter as the Vixens struggled to find space away from the Fever. West Australian Wing Defender Jessica Antiss, alongside some accurate shooting in Nat Medhurst and Kaylia Stanton proved key in helping the Fever find an early lead.

The Vixens defensive trio of Emily Mannix, Kate Moloney and Jo Weston once again were invaluable in the Vixens defence, assisting to equalising the scores. While Tegan Philip and Mwai Kumwenda continued to shoot with impressive accuracy. The Vixens led with four goals at quarter time.

Khao Watts in her debut game for the Vixens, alongside Moloney and Watson created plenty of shooting opportunities for the Vixens in the second quarter, putting them up 27 to 23 at the half.

The Vixens held their lead throughout the third quarter, with some stellar defensive work from Mannix sparking a late push from the Vixens to finish the third quarter with a five point lead.

The final quarter saw the Vixens come out firing, scoring four goals within the first three minutes.

Some fantastic feeding to the circle from Liz Watson and Moloney, as well a number of defensive intercepts and turnovers saw the Vixens continue to streak ahead of a tiring Fever team.

It was clear they had found their stride as they kept the Fever scoreless for the first six minutes of the quarter, allowing them to establish a fourteen point lead at one stage.

The Vixens took out the win 56-45 with their dominant final quarter effort key in their 11 point victory. Their successful result continues their recent run of victories against the West Coast Fever.

Next round the Melbourne Vixens will face off against the Queensland Firebirds on Saturday March 17 at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
