Hamilton snags U23 Oceania Roads title

Lucas Hamilton is the new U23 Oceania Road Championships title holder after taking out the 160km Men’s Road Race in a gruelling final sprint in Canberra this weekend.

Hamilton, a VIS scholarship holder, beat out fellow Australians Michael Storer and Jai Hindley in a tough Elite Men’s Road Race in Canberra that saw nearly half the field fail to finish.

In other cycling news, VIS cyclist Kelland O’Brien continued his recent run of success on the weekend, taking out second place at the Bendigo International Madison with partner Sam Welsford.

The pair finished behind Rohan Wright and Alex Porter in the Men’s Madison to only just miss out on the top spot by a lap.

Cycling Australia last week announced O’Brien, alongside VIS cyclists Courtney Field and Jacob Schmid in the Australia team for the Track World Championships in Hong Kong this April.

For O’Brien and Field it will be their first time representing Australia at the elite level in the Men’s Endurance team and Women’s Sprint team, respectively.

The announcement follows stellar results from all three cyclists at last weekend’s Track National Championships.
