Strong start to 2017 season

Australia earned two top five finishes on the opening day of competition at the third round of the 2016-17 Tissot UCI Track World Cup in Cali, Colombia on Friday.

 

World Cup debutant Kelland O'Brien combined with Alex Porter (SA), Leigh Howard (VIC), Cameron Scott (NSW), Nicholas Yallouris (NSW) and Rohan Wight (SA) to finish fifth in the men's team pursuit.

 

In other cycling news,  VIS cyclist Angus Lyons has had a strong start to the 2017 Victorian road cycling season, finishing 6th in the Elite Men’s A-Grade General Classification of the Tour of East Gippsland in the first hit-out of the Victorian Road Series 2017.

 

Lyons finished 6th in the 8km Time Trial on Friday night, putting him in good stead to make a top ten GC finish in the Tour.

 

VIS cyclists Thomas McDonald, Jake Klajnblat and Angus Lyons were all caught up in a bunch sprint finish of the 92km Men’s Road Race on Saturday, which saw Warragul Cycling Club’s Brenton Jones take out the race in a time of 2h05:10. Team VIS - John West finished 3rd overall.
