Lamble & Cowley confirmed for World Championships

Regan Lamble and Rhydian Cowley first to be named in the Australian team for the IAAF World Championships in August.

Lamble who recorded a top-10 finish at the Rio Olympics, took line honours in the women’s National 20km Walking Championships to confirm her selection for the World Championships in London.

Rhydian Cowley discretionarily gained selection after achieving the qualifying standard and winning the silver medal in the men’s 20km walk.

Weekend one of the Victorian Championships took place at Lakeside Stadium. Rio Paralympian Jaryd Clifford won the able-bodied U20 1500m as a T/F12 athlete (visual impairment), a phenomenal feat for the rising youngster clocking 3:57.98. Meanwhile, Nicholas Hum (T/F20) won the ambulant 100m in 11.10 (-0.5) with a 96.22% as the closest athlete to the world record in their respective classifications. Rio Olympian Linden Hall had a commanding victory in the women’s 1500m winning by an enormous nine seconds in a time of 4:08.98.

Luke Mathews lined up in New Zealand at the Auckland Track Challenge, finishing second in the men’s 800m in a time of 1:48.46. Damian Birkinhead was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 20.54 meters.

Isis Holt (T/F35) was victorious across the 100m where she stopped the clock at 14.48 (-0.4), 93.72% of the world record.
