Scott soars to top of World rankings

The winter wonderland weekend saw a flurry of stellar results in the Aerial Skiing World Cup in China, with VIS athlete Danielle Scott claiming a gold and silver medal in the opening event of the season.

In-form Scott began the World Cup season in China ranked No. 2 in the world and confirmed her place at the top of the sport with a second and a first in two competitions over the weekend.

China’s Xu Mentao took a hometown victory at Beida Lake on Saturday, narrowly defeating Scott after both performed triple-twisting double somersaults in the six-woman final. Scott showed off her clean technique in the air but Xu made the better landing and took the win with a score of 94.47, whilst Scott scored 87.06 points.

The results were reversed on Sunday, with Scott winning the second World Cup of the weekend with a superb triple-twister that scored 93.76 points, to Xu’s 92.35, whilst fellow VIS athlete Samantha Wells scored a personal best 91.65 points to finish third.

Fellow VIS athlete, Dave Morris, faced a tough task in the men’s competition but put in a great effort to finish in 5th place. He then joined up with Scott and Wells to claim bronze in the Team World Cup, one better than last year.

Returning 2015 World Champion Laura Peel didn’t have a great weekend with two 12th places but has her eyes set for bigger things in 2017.

The team will break over Christmas and split up across the world to head home, but will re-group again for the next event on January 13th at Lake Placid, USA.
