Fast and furious

VIS athlete Kate Moloney has returned to pre-season training with the Melbourne Vixens, while fellow VIS athletes Lizzie Watson and Jo Weston will enjoy a slight rest after a busy couple of weeks competing in the Fast5 Netball World Series and the Constellation Cup.

Weston and Moloney featured in the Australian side which finished runner-up to New Zealand in netball’s version of cricket’s Twenty20.

Australia were undefeated in the lead-up to the decider but ultimately couldn’t clinch their first Fast 5s title against the six-time champions, going down 41-16.

Earlier, Weston also joined Watson in the winning Australian Diamonds squad, which defeated New Zealand 49-45 in the fourth and final Constellation Cup Test.

The Diamonds led at each break but a late charge from the Silver Ferns saw the Diamonds winning margin reduced to just two goals in the final minute.

But the Diamonds defensive team applied the pressure and they were able to extend their lead in the last 30 seconds to cement the victory against the home side.

The win marked the Diamonds’ sixth Constellation Cup trophy in seven years and their fourth in a row.
