Kookaburras win Champions Trophy

It was a sudden death shootout that gave the Kookaburras the Champions Trophy crown after the 0-0 final score at full time against India in London.

The Kookaburras victory of 3-1 in the shootout was confirmed after a protest by India was overruled.

Throughout the match both countries had a number of opportunities via penalties to ease the gridlock but strong defensive stocks within both teams was pivotal in keeping the scoreboard clean.

With just over 10 minutes remaining the Kookaburras had their work cut out for them as they were down a player after receiving a yellow card.

As the full time whistle was blown, the score remained deadlocked and the gold medal match went into a sudden death shoot out.

Aran Zalewski, Daniel Beale, and Simon Orchard capitalised on their penalty shots, which gave Australia the victory after India only managed 1 goal.

VIS representatives Andrew Philpott and Chris Ciriello were members of the Kookaburras squad.
