Kookas on song at Azlan Shah Cup

The Kookaburras hammered Pakistan 4-0 for their third win in as many matches to top the seven-team standings with nine points at the Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia.

Australia took the initial lead through a 24th minute penalty corner conversion by Blake Govers before two goals in successive minutes from Tom Craig and Jamie Dwyer.

The Kookaburras eased comfortably in to the fourth quarter, notching up another goal to secure a comfortable victory.

VIS athlete Chris Ciriello is a member of the Kookaburras squad.

The Kookaburras next play New Zealand on Tuesday at 6.05pm AEST.

The Hockeyroos concluded their Hawke’s Bay Cup campaign – a significant preparation event for the Rio Olympics – with a dominant 3-1 win over China to secure third place behind Japan and New Zealand.

Off to a flying start the Hockeyroos were on the scoreboard within the opening two minutes, a lead they never relinquished.

VIS athlete Rachael Lynch was a vital member of the win with her courageous efforts as goalkeeper.

Australia’s women will now return to Australia for a six week training block before hosting New Zealand, Japan and India in a four nations event in Darwin from 31 May until 4 June, following which they will head to London for the Champions Trophy from 18-26 June.
