A prospective Olympic campaign shapes as an eight-year culmination of international competition for Katrina Werry.
The 27-year-old first represented Australia at the U21 level in 2013, before being selected in the U23 Women’s Eights the following year, where she finished fourth at the World Championships.
Werry was named alongside Lucy Stephan, Molly Goodman and Sarah Hawe in the Women’s Fours in 2017, with the crew winning gold in the season’s World Cups 2 and 3 while collecting silver at the World Championships the following year.
Efforts in the 2017 season crowned the four the 2017 Australian Female Crew of the Year at the annual Rower of the Year Awards.
A brief switch to the Eights preceded a return to the Fours competition for Werry, where in the 2019 season, the Victorian earned gold at the World Rowing Cup 3 and World Rowing Championships. Now in preparation for Tokyo 2020, Werry has continued training under the tutelage of John Keogh, Tom Westgarth and Ellen Randell at Penrith’s National Training Centre.
And with a debut Olympic Games almost in sight, Werry will be fixated on a successful regatta in the Japanese capital.
