Van Dijk re-qualifies for 2020

Monday, 09 December 2019

A quarter-final finish for Victorian Institute of Sport surfer, Nikki Van Dijk at the Lululemon Maui Pro last week was enough to re-qualify her for the World Surf League Women’s Championship Tour in 2020.

Going into the final event of the year, Van Dijk required a strong result and for Hawaiian Brisa Hennessy to lose early.

With Hennessy losing in the opening Rounds, Van Dijk, who sat at No. 11 on the Jeep Leaderboard, capitalized on Hennessy's loss with a victory over 2018 event runner-up Malia Manuel ( HAW).

With Lima, Coco Ho (HAW), and Paige Hareb (NZL) losing in their R/16 heats, Van Dijk clinched her 2020 qualification spot with her Quarterfinal entry.

“What an exciting way to finish the season! Thank you everyone who continues to support my real life dreams” Van Dijk took to her Instagram account.

The 2020 season will be Van Dijk's 7th consecutive year on the Championship Tour after qualifying for the 2014 tour after claiming the World Junior Championships in 2012.

You can watch Nikki surf on the world stage next year at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach from April 8 -18, 2020.

In other surfing news, VIS rising star Xavier Huxtable was narrowly beaten by Jamie Thomson in the U18 Surf Dive ‘n Ski Australian Junior Championships in Margaret River over the weekend.

Huxtable was beaten by 0.95 in a nail-biting finish.
