Mixed results for VIS Sailing Program

Monday, 09 December 2019

With new Sailing Head Coach, Malcolm Page taking the reins, the VIS Sailing Program saw a range of different results over the weekend:

Melbourne turned on perfect weather conditions for the 2019 George Mac Regatta at VIS partner club, Royal Brighton Yacht Club last weekend. VIS youth athletes produced some impressive results:

The 420 class came down to the last race with Linus Talacko and Lachie Grogan taking the win over James Jackson & Lachie Caldwell.

In the 29er, Zac Heyes & Ethan Hosking dominated races on day 1, but it didn’t go all their way on day 2, with newcomers to the class Lily & Matilda Richardson taking many race wins to close the gap for second overall.

Meanwhile, at the 49er World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand, VIS siblings Will & Sam Phillips concluded their 2019 assault at the World Championships, showing some great individual race results but some inconsistency saw them place 15th overall.

In the 49erFX, Tess Lloyd & Jaime Ryan (NSWIS) had a disappointing week of competition, but remain motivated to make amends at the upcoming 2020 World Championships in Geelong in February.

Both teams are lucky to have the opportunity to compete on home soil in a few months’ time and apply the valuable lessons learnt from the tough competition in New Zealand.
