Netball World Cup Wrap Up

Monday, 22 July 2019

The Netball World Cup has come to an end, with the Aussie Diamonds going down to the New Zealand Silver Ferns in a heartbreaking gold medal match.

Picking up from last week’s results, the Diamonds had strong wins against Barbados in match four (91-22) and Malawi in match five (74-25).

Match six, the Diamonds came up against New Zealand and got across the line with a tight win 50-49, which saw a semi-final qualification.

The semis saw the Diamonds up against South Africa, the VIS own Liz Watson was named player of the match, as they once again got the job done. The final score of 55-53 is with thanks to the VIS’ stellar shooter Caitlin Thwaites with 100% accuracy scoring 30/30 of her shots.

The Diamonds once again faced New Zealand, this time in the gold medal match. A very tough game going down to the wire, with New Zealand taking the gold by a single, heartbreaking point (51-52).

Congratulations to all three Melbourne Vixen stars; Liz Watson, Caitlin Thwaites and Jo Weston for representing the green & gold!
