Rietman and White silver medalists in France

Victorian Institute of Sport sailors, Tayla Rietman and Lachlan White, came second at the 2018 Junior World Championship for the Nacra 17 in France on the weekend.
The VIS pair fell short to a dominant Italian team of Gianluigi Ugolini and Maria Giubilei, however, managed to stop the Italians’ clean sweep by winning one of the eight races that was run for the Nacra 17.
The racing was typically quite even upwind, however the VIS scholarship holders were often edged-out downwind. Rietman says that the pair relished the strong home-style conditions and on the competition’s roughest day saw their break and took the opportunity to claim a victory.
“We’re so happy to be here in warm and sunny Southern France. Back home it’s a bit rough right now, so any chance to get out and race in such great conditions is fantastic,” She said.
Their one-round victory put them well clear of anyone snatching the silver off them with Peru finishing in third position by 9 points.
