Hansen cements Australian selection with a PB

Monday, 02 July 2018

VIS’ Jessica Hansen swam a huge PB of 1:06.74 in the Women’s 100m Breaststroke last night to take the gold and automatically book herself a spot on the Australian Pan Pacific Championship team.

Hansen went out hard from the start which is something that she’s been working on since the Commonwealth Games.

She also insists that whilst swimming a PB, she still has a lot to work on.

“It was probably not as clean as I would have liked, but that’s good, it’s progress, you’ve got room to move so can only get better.” Hansen said.

Whilst the win was exciting for Hansen, the best part about her swim was her automatic qualifying selection time that cements her spot on the Australian team that will compete at the Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo this August.

“It’s a relief, it’s good to know that I’m still on the (AUS) team and have my spot.” She said.

She dedicated her improvement due to putting everything into prospective after close friends were suffering from “tough times” of late.

“A few people that I really care about have had some tough times, losing people that they love.” Hansen said.

“It really puts everything in prospective that all I can do is stand behind the blocks and just enjoy every moment.

I get to do the thing I love.”

The 2018 Pan Pacific Swimming trials will continue until Wednesday.
