Te Hiko claims thrilling BMX national title

Monday, 26 March 2018

VIS BMX rider Brandon Te Hiko took out the elite men’s national BMX title in style, overcoming Shane Rosa in the final metres of the final yesterday in Bunbury, Western Australia.

Putting his narrow loss in the UCI Oceania Continental Championships behind him, Te Hiko dominated yesterday winning every lap except for one.

When Te Hiko saw his opportunity he took it – racing side by side with fellow Australian Shane Rosa down the final drag, until edging his tyre out in front right on the finish line.

“I’ve just been working so hard and I couldn’t have done it without my coach and my family,” Te Hiko said.

“I’ve gone through a few changes this year and I’ve had to sacrifice a lot of things like spending time with my friends which means that I haven’t had much of a social life.”

“After the Oceania titles on Wednesday where I came second, I went home and just thought about what I had to do today, and I just did it.”
