Lightning strikes Vixens
Sunday, 26 February 2017
The Vixens have suffered their first loss in the Suncorp Super Netball competition against the Sunshine Coast Lightning on Sunday.
Despite controlling play for much of the first half, the Vixens went down 58-52 in a tight match at the USC Sports Stadium.
The Vixens stormed into the lead early in the game, leading the opening quarter 15-12 before several costly errors late in the second half opened up opportunity for Lightning to deadlock the scores at 27 all at the half.
A lead-changing 3rd quarter saw the Lightning pull ahead with their first lead of the match heading into the final quarter.
The Vixens desperately tried to claw their way back into a victory, bringing the margin down to a narrow four points at one stage. However Lightning’s momentum was unstoppable and they took the game 58-52.
Captain Kate Moloney said the loss was a disappointing one, “I think we were up by about six or so in the second quarter so that was disappointing.” Moloney said.
“There is lots to work on at training this week,” she added.
Round 3 will see the Vixens face off against their traditional rivals the NSW Swifts next Saturday at Hisense Arena.
