James takes gold at X Games

Monday, 30 January 2017

The northern hemisphere winter is certainly being kind to our VIS athletes with Scotty James winning gold at the other big snow event, the X Games in Aspen.

James, a world champion in the Super Pipe beat a top class field including 2010 and 2014 Olympic gold medallists Shaun White and Louri Podladtchikov.

The X Games have a strong American focus but are regarded by many in the sport as almost the equivalent of the World Championships.

“It’s Australia Day back home today and I have my boxing kangaroo gloves on,” said James.

“I just came out wanting to have the best time and have lots of fun and let the rest do the talking, and it’s absolutely a dream come true to come away with the gold.”

James backed up his stellar start to the year after recently claiming a win and a second in two of the major competitions of the half-pipe season in a matter of days.

Next up for James will be the Olympic test event in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
