The younger sister of Rowing Australia teammate Katrina, Amanda Bateman stands as an interesting prospect alongside Tara Rigney in the Women’s Double Scull event.
With Genevieve Horton, Bateman qualified the Women’s Double Scull event for Olympic competition in her first senior World Rowing Championships in 2019.
Bateman has been preparing for her maiden Olympics campaign at the highly-esteemed National Training Centre in Sydney, where since the latter stages of 2018, has continued to progress and improve in a top-class competitive environment.
Overseen by world-leading coaches John Keogh, Tom Westgarth and Ellen Randell, Bateman has bolted into Olympics contention after impressive performances over the past two years, most notably of which was accompanied by a silver and bronze medal in the 2019 World Rowing Cup.
Recently, Bateman has displayed her versatility on the national stage. The Firbank Grammar School product collected her second Queen’s Cup title at the Interstate Regatta this year as part of Victoria’s Women’s Eight crew, despite her continual Olympic training for the Double Sculls event.
The Melbourne native will enter the Japanese capital idealising a podium finish to cap what has been an eye-catching rise to the pinnacle of the rowing arena.
