Changes to the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS)

The National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) is the foremost educational accreditation scheme for Australian Coaches.  It is managed by the Australian Sports Commission and has changed considerably in the previous three years.  Formerly it was a prescriptive structure with three levels for each sport.  It now allows each National Sports Organisation to prescribe a tailored flexible approach that can encompass many levels and modules that best suit the needs of their sport.  Coaches need to contact either their State Sporting Association or their National Sporting Organisation to find information on their respective sports coach education structure.

All NCAS Training Programs still have generic coaching general principles as well as a sports specific component.  Sport Education Victoria provides the generic coaching general principles, now called Beginning Coaching General Principles and Intermediate Coaching General Principles. These can be completed in a variety of different ways but they need to be completed in conjunction with a sports-specific course to gain coaching accreditation for a sport.  Coaches need to contact either their State Sporting Association or their National Sporting Organisation to find out how their new course

is mapped to the generic Beginning Coaching General Principles and Intermediate Coaching General Principles.
