VIS Sailor wins bronze at Junior World Championships

VIS sailor, Oliver Tweddell, has finished third at the 2010 Finn Silver Cup Junior World Championships in San Francisco.

Tweddell, 19, only spent a few months training in the Finn Class, after he transferred from his favoured Laser event.

“Oliver sailed incredibly well all week in some challenging conditions in San Francisco,” said VIS Head Sailing Coach, Johnny Rodgers. “He has a strong Laser background and first got serious about the Finn just after Christmas last year and competed in the Australian Championships soon after.”

“Since that time he’s been training hard as a part of the VIS program and this week’s result is the culmination of all that hard work and a great reward,” said Rodgers.

Tweddell had a very consistent regatta, finishing inside the top six in every race and claiming three second placed finishes.
