VIS gymnasts prepare for Commonwealth Games
6 September 2010
VIS scholarship holders Ashleigh Brennan, Georgia Bonora and Georgia Wheeler are ramping up their preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Brennan has previously competed in the 2006 Commonwealth Games where she won a team gold medal and an individual floor silver medal. Brennan and Bonora both competed at the 2008 Olympic Games. Wheeler has recently been announced in the Australian team for the Games, following Mary-Anne Monckton’s (AIS) withdrawal from the team following an injury at training.
The team will first head to the AIS for a training camp from the 12th September. The gymnasts will also compete in the second trial for World Championships, which are to be held in Rotterdam following the Commonwealth Games. They will then depart Australia for Delhi on the 26th September.
Brennan, Bonora and Wheeler are joined on the team representing Australia at the Commonwealth Games by Emily Little (WAIS) and Lauren Mitchell (WAIS). The Commonwealth Games start in Delhi on the 3rd October, with the Artistic Gymnastics running from the 4th – 8th October.
