VIS involvement with the community, both locally and globally is wide ranging and diverse.
VIS cyclists dominate championships
6 September 2010
At the recent Victorian Open Road Cycling Championships, VIS cyclist, Jo Hogan, proved her versatility when she won both the individual road time trial and the road race on consecutive days.
The ITT was held in great weather conditions on a 20 km course at Portarlington. Jo completed the course seven seconds ahead of the second place rider, and fellow VIS cyclist, Kendelle Hodges secured fourth place, 25 seconds behind Jo.
The next day Jo competed in the road race on a grueling hilly course around Anakie with 60 other riders. In her typical style, she broke away from the lead group toward the end of the race to finish 51 seconds clear of second place.
At the Junior National Road Cycling Championships held in Canberra, VIS scholarship holder, Tom Hamilton won the 15 km individual road time trial. Tom was the only athlete to complete the course in less than 19 minutes over the hilly course in the Stromlo forest. VIS teammate, Alex Morgan finished fifth. Tom Hamilton also came second in the 68 km road race.
