Two VIS players in Hockeyroos squad
28 July 2010
VIS hockey players, Georgia Nanscawen and Rachael Lynch have been named in the Hockeyroos squad ahead of the 2010 World Cup in Argentina.
Held from August 30 – September 11 in Rosario, Argentina, the Hockeyroos are looking to win their third World Cup gold, with their last gold victory coming in 1998.
At only 18 years of age, Nanscawen has become a regular feature in the Hockeyroos squad making her first Australian debut one day after her 17th birthday. Completing her VCE, Nanscawen has the difficult task of balancing her studies with her demanding training schedule.
Fellow VIS and Hockeyroo teammate, Rachael Lynch, made her Hockeyroo debut at the 2006 Champions Trophy after putting in a strong performance in the 2006 AHL season. A seasoned international campaigner - Lynch has played over 30 international matches.
If the Hockeyroos win gold at this World Cup, it will be the first time in history that both the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos have won a World Cup in the same season.
