McKnight selected into Commonwealth Games team

VIS athlete Kaila McKnight was selected to the Australian Commonwealth Games team to compete in the Women’s 1500m as part of a group of final selections nominated by Athletics Australia. With the team now closed, 12 VIS Track and Field athletes will be part of the 75 strong Australian Track and Field Team to compete in Delhi in October.
In international results, Collis Birmingham finished 8th in the 1,500m at the Brussels Diamond League meet in a new PB time of 3:35.50. Also in Brussels, Jarrod Bannister finished 4th in the Javelin with a throw of 82.05m
In Rieti Italy, Birmingham back up his Diamond League results with a new PB time over the 3000m finishing 7th in a time of 7:38.77.
Locally, Lisa Weightman set a new course record at the City to Surf 12km road race in Perth. Weightman placed first in the event clocking a time of 40min 15sec. At the Athletics Victoria Sandown Relays, Craig Mottram clocked the fastest time of the day covering the 6.2km in 17min 34sec to help his club team of Geelong Region win the Open Male category. Mottram now returns to Europe for two weeks where he will run a 10km road race next weekend and a 2 mile road race the following weekend as part of the Great North City Games in Newcastle, England.
