Three VIS Hockeyroos selected in World Cup team

Monday, 02 July 2018

Hockey Australia last week announced the Hockeyroos 18-member team for next month’s Women’s Hockey World Cup, which included VIS athletes Kristina Bates, Emily Hurtz and Rachael Lynch.

The Hockeyroos will take on Japan, Belgium and New Zealand in the rounds of the 14 edition of the Women’s Hockey World Cup in London from July 21 to August 5.

Coming off the back of a convincing Tri-Nations series victory against New Zealand, the team looks to be in good form heading to London.

Head Coach, Paul Gaudoin is looking forward to London, and is pleased to see “creative midfielder” Kristina Bates in the team for her first World Cup.

“[Bates] earnt selection on the back of strong performances in New Zealand.” Gaudoin said.

The Hockeyroos finished second at the last Women’s World Cup, in the Netherlands in 2014, after being defeated by the host nation 2-0, and will be looking for redemption later this month.
