Women shooters on target

Monday, 19 February 2018

After recent changes to international Trap Shooting rules, which means that women now shoot at the same number of targets as men, two VIS scholarship holders have turned heads at the Sydney Cup event at the weekend.

Laetisha Scanlan hit 122 of a possible 125 shotgun targets and fellow Victorian Penny Smith scored 120.

Queenslander Adam Bylsma was the only man to hit 120 or more targets (122).

Previously women shot at 75 targets compared to the men’s 125.

Laetisha celebrated her recent selection in the Commonwealth Games team by snaring the gold medal while Penny was relegated to bronze after a shoot off.

It was a big weekend for VIS scholarship holders with Yering’s Jack Wallace winning the Men’s Trap gold medal  and 18 year old youngster Aislin Jones having to settle for silver after a shoot off in the Skeet event.

Another one of our Commonwealth Games team members, James Bolding had the highest five round score in the Skeet but didn’t progress through the shoot off.
