Gregson and Birkinhead set to debut indoor
Monday, 26 February 2018
Australian record holders, Ryan Gregson (1500m) and Damien Birkinhead (Shot Put), will make their debut appearances at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham 1-4 March.
Gregson identifies the World Indoor Championships as crucial preparation ahead of Gold Coast 2018.
"The 1500m at the Commonwealth Games will be cut-throat and feature the best 1500m runners in the world,” Gregson said.
“To prepare myself for that, I wanted to practice racing against the best in the world. At the World Indoors, a world title will be on the line. Sure, it will be good preparation for the Commonwealth Games, but racing at the World Indoors has been a big focus of mine since the beginning of this campaign and it's a championship that I'm desperate to have success in."
In other results, Ryan Gregson has run a swift 3:56.49 to claim victory in the mile at the AIT International Grand Prix in Ireland, whilst fellow VIS scholarship holder, Zoe Buckman placed third in the women’s 1500m.
Days later at the Muller Indoor Grand Prix in Glasgow, Gregson placed third over the 1500m in 3:38.00, while Buckman ran a personal best time of 4:10.52.
