VIS athletes take aim at gold

VIS shooting athletes have wrapped up the Darwin ISSF Grand Prix with an impressive swag of medals, including four golds.


VIS athletes Catherine Skinner, Penny Smith and Laetisha Scanlan took a clean sweep of the medals in the Women’s Trap, with Rio Gold medallist Skinner taking home the top award. Smith and Scanlan finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively. VIS scholarship holder, Aislin Jones defeated Laura Lee Coles in the Women’s Skeet to take out gold.


Over in the men’s competition, Mitchell Iles had a successful weekend, taking home gold in the Double Trap, before backing it up with a bronze in the Men’s Trap. VIS scholarship holders, Keith Ferguson and James Bolding both found themselves on the podium in the Men’s Skeet, with Ferguson taking home the gold, while Bolding scored bronze.


Across the board, VIS athletes secured a total 4 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze, giving themselves a good confidence boost heading into the ISSF Shotgun World Championship, kicking off on Wednesday in Moscow.
