Mannix gets Diamond call

Saturday, 12 August 2017

Melbourne Vixens star defender, Emily Mannix, has been called into the Australian Diamonds Quad Series side following a late withdrawal.

The Vixens defender replaces Collingwood star, Sharni Layton, who is a late withdrawal due to exhaustion.

The decision follows a break-out Suncorp Super Netball season for Mannix, where she finished runner-up in the prestigious Sharelle McMahon medal behind Vice-Captain Liz Watson. Mannix also ranked highly in the statistics across the competition, finishing the season fourth overall for intercepts and seventh for defensive rebounds and deflections in the country.

2017 will mark Mannix’s debut for the Australian Diamonds, where she is set to play in the Fast5 World Series in Melbourne this October and now in the Diamonds Netball Quad Series team, taking to the court in Brisbane later this month.

Mannix will join fellow Melbourne Vixens players Tegan Philip, Liz Watson and Jo Weston on the court, giving the Vixens the highest representation of any Super Netball team, with four players named in the squad.

The Netball Quad Series will open in Brisbane on August 26, when the Australian Diamonds take to the court against the English Roses.
