Kookaburras score bronze

Monday, 24 July 2017

The Kookaburras have finished 3rd at the World League Semi-Final in Johannesburg, South Africa over the weekend to qualify for December’s World League Finals and the 2018 World Cup.

It’s safe to say the Kookaburra’s were relentless in their 8-1 defeat, denying Spain the opportunity to score until the 59th minute.

VIS athlete, Aaron Kleinschmidt, played a key role in the win finding the back of the net on two occasions. The Kookaburras squad also saw VIS scholarship holders Kiran Arunasalam and Josh Pollard donning the green and gold.

Kookaburras head coach, Colin Batch, said that the team put together an outstanding game on top of their progress throughout the tournament.

“We’ve ticked a few boxes in this tournament qualifying for World League Final and the 2018 World Cup, which will give us a good structure going forward. It means a lot to us finishing third in the competition, obviously we would have liked to have played in the final but we’re happy with the bronze medal,” he said.

The Kookaburras are now set to face the World League Final in December.
