Women's Four hit Gold

Sunday, 18 June 2017

VIS rowers, Kat Werry and Lucy Stephan, have claimed gold in the Australian Women’s Four at World Cup 2 in Poland over the weekend.

Racing against two USA teams, Ukraine, Poland and China, the Aussie Women’s Four crossed the line in a new World Cup best time of 6 minutes and 22 seconds.

The Australians got off to a slow start, letting the US and Poland take the lead, before putting their foot to the floor and working their way into the lead in the second half of the race to take the win.

The World Cup event was also a senior debut for two of the four crew members, including VIS athlete, Kat Werry.

VIS scholarship holder Lucy Stephan said she was really happy with the result:

“It was a good race. We really stuck to our race plan, we had a good first thousand metres and in the last five hundred metres I was just hoping to not muck it up. I’m really looking forward to how we progress this season.” she said.

The Australians will now turn their focus towards World Cup 3 in Lucerne next month and the 2017 World Championships in USA later this year.
