Hockeyroos stun competition

Monday, 26 June 2017

Four VIS athletes, Madeleine Ratcliffe, Georgia Nanscawen, Rachael Lynch and Laura Barden have had a stunning start to their Hockeyroos World League Semi-Finals campaign, winning their nearly all of their pool matches.

On the opening day, the Australian side defeated Malaysia 3-0 in a dominant performance then went on to defeat the home side Belgium 1-0, in a tough match captained by VIS scholarship holder Rachael Lynch.

The victory against Belgium also marked VIS athlete Georgia Nanscawen’s 200th Australian cap, an outstanding achievement. Nanscawen is one of the the youngest Hockeyroos to ever play 200 games for Australia.

The Hockeyroos third match of the tournament saw an unfortunate loss to the New Zealand Black Sticks 0-2, before going on to defeat Spain 4-0 in their final match of the pool round.

The Hockeyroos completed the pool matches with three wins and a loss and now turn their attention to the quarter finals to be played on Thursday.
