Golden Start to Swim Championships

The Australian National Championships kicked off on Sunday, with VIS athletes making a powerful start to the competition.

VIS athlete Mack Horton secured himself a World Championship qualifying time with his win in the Men’s 400m Freestyle. Horton finished in a time of 3:44.18, two seconds ahead of 2nd placed David McKeon who touched with 3:46.90.

Joshua Beaver finished 2nd in Men’s 100m Backstroke, securing himself a qualifying time for the World Championships in Budapest later this year. VIS scholarship holder Beaver finished 0.31seconds behind Rio Olympic team mate Mitch Larkin in a tight race.

VIS athlete Ahmed Kelly finished 1st in the 100m Men’s Breaststroke Multi Class race, defending his 2016 National title.

The Australian National Championships continues in Brisbane this week, finishing up on Thursday 13th April.
