Penalty shootout heartbreak

Tuesday, 16 August 2016

Australia's women's water polo team has bowed out of Rio following an agonising penalty shoot-out loss to Hungary.

The Stingers dominated the first three quarters, but tired badly in the final period as Hungary levelled the match 8-8 late on.

Bronwen Knox was the unfortunate player to hit the post in a crucial miss as Hungary kept its nerve to win the shoot-out 5-3.

Ash Southern bagged three goals for Australia, while Rowie Webster and Glenchora McGhie scored two each.
