Aussies outclass hosts

Australia's women's water polo team have powered home to take a decisive 10-3 win over hosts Brazil in the final pool stage of the Rio Olympic Games.

Despite a very vocal home crowd, the Aussies outclassed the Brazilians and showed why they are favourites to finish on the podium.

It was another physical and aggressive game from both sides, with the Australians delivering a strong defensive game.

The win will see Australia finish second in their pool behind Italy, meaning they will face Hungary in the Quarter Final.

The Aussie men have suffered a devastating blow in their Olympic campaign, losing to Serbia 8-10.

A physical match between the two countries ensured eye-catching viewing, Australia taking a slight 5-4 lead at the main break. At three quarter time the game was gridlocked at 6-6.

Known to be a force to be reckoned with, Serbia showed their class deep into the final quarter, converting when it mattered and claiming the victory.

The loss forces the Aussies into a must win game against Greece in the final of the group stages which will take place on Monday 15 August at 3:10am (AEST).
