Vixens go down to Firebirds in a fight

Saturday, 16 April 2016

The injury ravaged  Melbourne Vixens have gone down to reigning premiers the Queensland Firebirds [47-58] in Round Three of their ANZ Championship fixture against at Hisense Arena.

The Firebirds had the upper hand early on in the match, taking a three goal lead in the first quarter. But skipper Madi Robinson delivered plenty of ball to the Vixen shooter s and at the other end of the court Geva Mentor held her own with two vital intercepts which kept the Vixens within striking distance at the main break.

Missing the injured Tegan Phillip and Karen Bailey up front the Vixens struggled to score in the third quarter and turned for home with an 11 goal deficit.

In the final 15 minutes of play, the Vixens clawed their back to within seven goals of the Firebirds but Queensland was simply too strong in the end winning by 11 goals.

The Vixens have a week off with a bye round; their next match will be against the Magic on Sunday 1 May at 12:00pm at Hisense Arena.
